I really want a dog. I grew up having a dog. I feel more safe with a dog. I really like them and the companionship one offers. At first when DH and I were married we lived in an apartment that didn't allow a dog (or I would have gotten one back then). So we moved out into the country, bought a house, had a kid. So I want a dog. I wanted a dog last year, and dh said no, next year we can get one. Christmas is the perfect time to ask for one too since everything we need for one can be asked for as gifts instead of other stuff. DH's parents would buy the dog and have already been asking what type we would want. Mind you we'd work it out to get a dog from a shelter or something around here so we could make sure the dog fit into our family.
So first dh said they are too expensive. So after some research, yes you have to pay for food, but really they are not that much (well as long as they don't get sick). If we really ran into a bind I've already been offered free vet care from my aunt's long time boyfriend who is a vet.
So now the problem is that dh wants one of those electric fences. He doesn't want a real fence cause he hates the look of it. (roll eyes here). And he hates seeing a dog chained on a run. Well seeing as we live on a corner on a road where they go 60+ mph we have to have something. So I'll be working on trying to get him to at least agree to having a line run then next year asking for the underground electric fence. Now dh says we can get one next year. Right that's what he said last year.
I never knew it was this hard to get a dog.
Another big reason i want a dog is for our daughter who is 19 months. She is a little scared of animals until she spends more time with them. I know it'll help her to be around at least one animal more. Mind you dh suggested a fish (yes, you may roll your eyes again). I hate fish. I'd end up taking care of them and I don't want to have to take care of something I don't like. We've had fish before and he wouldn't take care of them so I was stuck doing it. I'm not taking care of fish again. Besides how would that help her around animals that can walk? She already is not afraid of fish.
