So I had fears moving into this house, but against my better judgement I went along with it and brought the house with DH.
And now we are screwed, to put it lightly.
We've already had major repairs. Replaced septic, replaced water system, bought new fridge, put in reinforcer slats to hold in bowing basement wall, etc. Those are pretty expensive things and have put us in some MAJOR debt. The last thing we finally had to ask DH's parents to help up out, so now we are paying them back as well.
Last big wind storm we were unfortunate enough to discover another MAJOR problem. The front of the house over hang moved upward with every big wind gust. DAMN!
So today I had a guy come out that does roofing and siding for a living and got a free esimate from him. He said well the house isn't put together well and so they used cheap products and didn't do everything that should have been done. He would bet a pretty penny that the overhang is just pieced on there. It should be on there from an extension of the rafter and whatnot. Since it is more than likely not, we have two options. One pay to have someone extend the rafters and rebuild the entire overhang. Which he guessed would cost around 2000-3000 dollars.
Or option two, wait until the wind blew it off and have it covered with home owners insurance. He recommended option two since it's kinda expensive. He said it would probably make a clean break and not do roof damage....
So I look up our insurance policy and see that we'd have to pay 2500 out of pocket before they'd cover anything....so option two seems stupid to me. Plus if we wait for it to break off what if there is roof damage (thus adding more to the cost). Also with wind is normally snow or rain. So not only would it break off but then the attic would be exposed to water and possible do water damage and god forbid what would happen when the water reached electrical! Plus we pay lower on insurance since we haven't made a claim. So we'd pay more for insurance without that deduction.
So yea, crap.
Yet again we have a major repair that is expensive. And there are other major problems I have been ignoring cause we can't do anything. I'm afraid the electrical system is bad. Meaning a fire could happen. Foundation has problems and appears that a wall in basement could blow out anyday.
So on top of that what really sucks is the housing market to sell is crap. So to sell this place we'd have to probably sell for less than we still owe. Meaning we'd have to get even more money from somewhere.
So what am I supposed to do? Just wait until we loose the house? Just wait until something major happens? I really am at a loss for what to do.

A job hunting DH goes
So I gave DH my resume to look over and critique. It sent him into tears. He told me how he finds it so important for me to stay at home with Josie and is convinced that me being at home with her is the reason she is so advanced compared to other kids her age. Such a sweet comment!
However, it doesn't bring in the moola.
So he started kicking the job hunting into high gear. Right now for the experience he has and what he does he is underpaid. His job gave him a new job title not too long ago but said they didn't have the money for a raise. On monday he meets with his boss to discuss his worth and deserving a raise.
Tonight we talked more about his hunting. He let me know he's applying for jobs state wide. I must say the thought of moving is scary but it would thrill me to get out of this house. Of course then there would be the additional headache of trying to sell the house, which obviously is a horrible time to be doing that!
We have to do something though. I warned him even with a raise from his current employeers it still probably would not be enough for us and our financial situation.
So hopefully there is something better on the horizon that can help us with this job and maybe take care of the house at the same time.

Oh what to do
I have a very restless feeling. I have started looking for a job. I really think I need one, now if I can only find one that will make enough that it will be worth having one.
I love seeing my daughter do firsts, but as she grows I'm getting more and more frustrated being a SAHM. It's harder than any job I've ever had. And I don't get paid to do it (well with money anyways). I love the freedom and I love knowing exactly what she does and where she is.
Many times in my life I am called back to being an artist. I have two college degrees. One in Art and one in Art History. I love art. It's my passion and I feel it really defines me as a person.
So I am looking at jobs out there. I'd really like to find a part time job that does not require weekends or holidays so I can actually see my family. But it's hard to find, unless I get something like an office job.
Well I guess I'll just have to keep looking. We are so tight on money and house needs some major repairs that I think I really have to get a job. Even if for a year or two just to get more money for things we need to get done.
